Almost 95% of South Sudan's population depends on climate-sensitive sectors. Fisheries, forestry, and agriculture, for example, are all reliant on the environment and climate to thrive. Droughts and floods have long disrupted life in South Sudan, and the region's tremendous impact on climate change has made them considerably more dangerous.
Multiple causes have contributed to South Sudan's vulnerability and fragility, making them one of the five worst-performing countries in the Climate Change Vulnerability Index, and the situation is likely to worsen.
The current state of affairs has been instigated through years of political instability, ongoing economic crisis, and the growing concerns of extreme climatic events. SSESA aims to stand for South Sudan by partnering with food service operators to foster safe food practices through strong food safety systems, environmental health , waste management, vector control, flood preparedness , and safe, reliable drinking water facilities. The objectives will be achieved through sustained efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change and minimize the challenges ahead.
It is now time for the world, including established donors, to stand up for our brothers in South Sudan and deliver a long-term solution that provides relief while demonstrating a culture of safety and great environmental standards.
